PAT’s Passenger Assistant Training

This is a 5 module course. Module A is the foundation but the other modules can be added or omitted subject to organisation requirements.

MODULE A The Role of the Passenger Assistant
MODULE B Assisting Passengers with Disabilities
MODULE B1 Assisting Wheelchair Users in Transit
MODULE C1 Supervising Children and Young People
MODULE C2 Adults who require Care and Attention

This course is designed for persons who undertake the role of passenger assistant (sometimes called escorts, carers, care assistants or helpers)

PATS is for anyone who has care and/or supervision of passengers when travelling by road whether as a non – driving passenger assistant or as a driver/passenger assistant.

Theory session to include the following:

Passenger Assistants role and responsibilities
Legal, practical and safety issues
Health and Safety and Manual Handling overview
Disability Awareness
Emergency situations
Persons with learning difficulties
Sensory restrictions
Emotional or Behavioural difficulties
Correct use of wheelchair/safe use of lifts/ramps
Correct use of wheelchair and passenger security equipment

This course includes a ´hands on´ element and theory assessment. Successful participants receive a PAT’s Handbook and a nationally recognised PA certificate.
